Treated myself to a book by Mandy Putallo and made this little doodle whilst looking at her little applique on the cover of the book, which is a wonderful inspiration. I would like to take it further, develop it into a fabric design….just give me time…

This one I just made a line pencil drawing and when I was more or less happy with it, I went over it with a fine pink marker pen. Could make a textile design if I put it into repeat, whether I colour it or not is another decision.

This little piece is far more thoughtful than the other two, and has several possibilities for designs that coordinate. The paisley, the leafy sprigs, the flowers in or out of the circles, and the little groups of three circles rather like some sort of flower bud…
I did these little doodley drawings at Duxford, when I should have been taking money hand over fist! Unfortunatley, what small handful of customers that were , were not buying, so I had to fall upon my wits and entertain myself …
Luckily, I had some paper and pencil, and a few pens in my bag, which I always carry with me against such times of frustration, and these are what entertained me. Sometimes just having a few odd colours can make you stretch yourself a bit, a muted palette can be a good thing.
The next stage is to make them into designs, and choose what colours I’d like to use ideally…rather than what happened to be in the bag. Thank the Lord for my capacious Cath Kidstone bag, it’s got a full, every scenario medical kit in there, toothbrush, socks, knicks a tiny bottle of wine, you never know where you might find yourself!
